Sometimes it's hard to find a short-story anthology....about werewolves...that isn't over-the-top gruesome or where your favorite characters die in slow ugly deaths. This is a collection where most of the stories left me hopeful for mankind or at least triggered a pleasant glow. I didn't have to sleep with the light on or read another book to calm down before sleep.

I used to check this book out of the library at least once every two months when I was younger; it has some of the best werewolf stories I've ever read in it. The selection is superb. Check it out and expect to be thoroughly engrossed.
It is fantastic!!
A young adult (grades 5 and 6 reading level) collection of stories about werewolves. The weakest of the collection are the formulaic, unoriginal stories (teen wolf, a wolf camping trip). The strongest twist the werewolf folklore (some very aware of the lore) into new meaning (particularly two that deal with parallels to anti-Semitism and another that deals with the Children's Crusade) to create original tales. Not particularly deep, but a good collection for young readers. Grade B
I checked this book out of the school library so many times in the early 90's, that they finally just gave it to me.

It's a far stretch from today's twilight werewolves, but it was pretty impressive for its time. I'm definitely ordering a copy for my kids in hopes that they like it as much as I did.
I can't say I remember every story in this book but I do know I checked it out of my library for two whole school years more often than anyone eventually stole it from the library. Somewhere along the way I lost it and I'm here to buy it back. If this is the same book I'm thinking of one of the stories in it is how to become a werewolf by smearing baby fat on your body under a full moon. Yes I was in 4th grade and yes that was in one of the books in our library
